Minnesota poised to grant new rules for transgender students on sports teams reported that a California teenage boy was the first transgender in that state to be allowed to join a girls’ softball team. The principal at Azusa High called it a “groundbreaking moment” that Patrick Cordova-Goff (pictured at right) was trying out for the softball team. The draft also suggests that schools must use the correct names and pronouns related to the student’s self-identification; must educate faculty and staff about “transgender sensitivity;” and permit the student to dress “according to the student’s gender identity.”
